“Soya, let’s read again!” is a children book that we illustrated for ROOM TO READ, an organization for the education of young children all over the underdeveloped and developing world.
"“Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it.”
Life can be easy, life can be hard, life can be fun, life can be boring, life is ever changing and each one of us experiences it differently. Yet in the sea of uncertainty that is life, we find one thing that has never and probably will never change – death. This book aims to teach children about this inevitable aspect of life through a story about the passing away of Soya’s grandpa.
During the making of the storyboard, and later the creation of every page, Ohio Studio encountered and overcame many challenges. Of all these hardships, none of them was as tricky as depicting everyday life through illustrations. Each person, each object, each action portrayed, albeit in a very cartoony, adolescent style, must be relatable to the book’s readers, parents and children alike. Keeping that in mind, our illustrator, taking references from his own life, with his grandfather, father, and his experience with them as a visual, as well as emotional guideline, brought the book to life with his whole heart and soul"
